About Our Window Company Rating
Last updated
This rating helps homeowners in Columbus, Ohio and beyond choose reliable window repair and replacement companies. The goal of the project is to save your time, reduce risks, and give you information you can check yourself rather than take on trust.
Who Publishes This Rating
This rating is published by Window Gurus, a window repair and replacement company based at 4730 Kenny Rd, Columbus, OH 43220, reachable at (614) 852-4608 and windowrepair@window-gurus.com, Mon–Fri 9am–5pm.
We want to be direct about what that means. We are not a magazine, not a consumer watchdog, and not a neutral third party — we work in the same market as the companies listed here, and Window Gurus appears in this rating itself. Links to window-gurus.com are marked as sponsored.
We do not think that disqualifies the rating, but it does change what we can honestly promise. We cannot promise neutrality. What we can promise is this: no company pays for placement, our criteria are published in full below rather than summarized as “30+ factors”, and each figure on a company page carries a link to the public source it came from and the date we checked it. Where a competitor scores better than we do on a criterion, the page says so. That way you can audit the people who compiled the list, not just the list.
Materials are published as “Window Gurus team”. We would rather sign with the real company behind the project than invent an editorial staff that does not exist.
What We Assess
We evaluate each company against the same set of criteria:
- Price transparency – accuracy of estimates, clarity of costs, hidden fees.
- Warranty terms – coverage for both products and installation work.
- Licenses and certifications – compliance with state and federal safety standards.
- Customer reviews – verified feedback from Google, BBB, and other trusted platforms.
- Timelines – average delivery and installation times.
- Emergency repairs – availability of urgent services.
- Special expertise – including historic homes and complex restoration projects.
What We Do and Do Not Claim
- ✅ No paid placement – a company cannot buy a position, and submitting a company is free.
- ✅ Published criteria – the full weighted list is above, not summarized as a number of “factors”.
- ✅ Sourced figures – each value carries a link to the public record and the date we checked it.
- ✅ Disclosed conflict – the publisher is a window company that appears in this rating.
- ❌ Not independence – we do not claim to be a neutral third party, because we are not one.
How We Collect Data
Wherever a claim can be checked against a public Ohio record, that is where we check it rather than repeating what a company says about itself:
- Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation – whether workers’ coverage is active.
- Ohio Secretary of State – the registered entity and how long it has existed.
- Columbus Building & Zoning Services and other city registries – contractor registration.
- Better Business Bureau and the Ohio Attorney General – complaints on record.
- Google Business Profile and BBB – review volume and rating, quoted with the date taken.
- Manufacturer dealer programs – Andersen, Pella, Marvin, ProVia certifications.
Warranty terms, estimate practices and service scope come from the companies themselves, and we say so when that is the case. Where we could not verify something, the page reads “not verified” instead of a guess.
Rolling Out the Scored Version
We are in the middle of rebuilding this rating around that source-checked model, so not every company page carries a full scorecard yet. Pages that have been rebuilt show the date each figure was checked; pages that have not are being reworked in turn. We would rather show you which is which than backfill numbers we have not verified.
Corrections
If you spot outdated or wrong information — including a company that believes its own assessment is unfair — write to us and we will check it against the source and correct the page. How we handle that is set out in our editorial policy.
